Isaiah 49 • Doctrinal Mastery Practice 8

Not Forgotten Lab

Hear what it feels like to be forgotten, find the Lord’s answer, see how He proved it, and choose a passage that could help someone today.

Begin with Isaiah’s words. Which are the feeling, and which are the Lord’s answer?

Sort Isaiah’s words

The feeling, or the Lord’s answer?

Read Isaiah 49:4–5, 13–16. Isaiah wrote in layers: these words could be his own, Israel’s, the Saviour’s, or ours. Decide where each phrase belongs.

“I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought”
Isaiah 49:4

“yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength”
Isaiah 49:5

“The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me”
Isaiah 49:14

“yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee”
Isaiah 49:15

“I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands”
Isaiah 49:16

Link the witnesses

How was “graven … upon the palms” fulfilled?

Lesson 121 links Isaiah 49:16 with John 19:15–19 and 3 Nephi 11:10–15. Read them slowly, then find where each phrase comes from.

“they crucified him”

“feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet”

“going forth one by one until they had all gone forth”

Name the memory pictures

Which doctrinal mastery passage is it?

These pictures were made for our class to help you remember doctrinal mastery passages. Try to say the reference and key phrase before you choose.

Take it to the journal

A passage for the moment

Doctrinal Mastery Practice 8 asks how a passage could apply to a real situation, and how applying it could strengthen a relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Choose one from each row to shape a page for your own journal.
